in Normandy.
Thursday May 1st.
North from Tours via Le Lude, Mayenne, Domfront and Flers into Calvados country. Through the very picturesque Suisse-Normande on the D6 passing through Villers Bocage and Tilly to join the E.46 near Bayeux. West then to our first night's stop on a farm at Formigny near Omaha Beach.
Friday, May 2nd.
Morning coffee in the village bar then off to Pointe du Hoc to see the scene of the heroic attack by American Rangers on the cliffs here during the first hours of D-Day.
Video Tribute
Back along the coast road to the village of Vierville facing onto Omaha Beach. The museum tells the story of the landings here and the bloody battle by the American troops to break through ; well worth our visit.
Saturday, May 3rd The American War Cemetery at Colleville.
Along the coast road to Avranches and the remains of Mulberry Harbour where the main invasion force came ashore.
Final day - Sunday, May 4th. Inland to Creully where, in June 1944, Monty set up his field camp in the grounds of the chateau and the BBC established a studio in one of the towers to keep Britain informed about the progress of the invasion.
