August 2013 our summer holiday in Bruges, Belgium and Waterland in North Holland.
Bruges- what a fascinating town.
Fantastic chips at the huts in central square.
Bruges is a beautiful town with stunning architecture and very agreeable coffee shops.
The old hospital at Bruges.
A day in Delft.
Delft pottery design can be seen everywhere.
A stopover at Alsmeer just outside Amsterdam.
Into North Holland - windmill country.
Gates leading onto the dyke close by gravity.
The cheese festival at Edam.
You can see why this area is called Waterland.
Clog maker at Marken.
Here you can see the level of the cultivated area is considerably lower than the sea outside the dyke.
The harbour at Marken.
Marken is a really special place.
A lot of the older people here still wear traditional costume.
Preparing eels which are a speciality in Waterland.
Windmills in North Holland
They have a wonderful habit of giving you something extra with your coffee.
My new bike - a Dutch model so I can blend in now.
